Reasons to Love (High Quality) CBD In Skincare

It gives your skin's antioxidants a boost.

This is part of the reason why topical CBD is being recommended for issues like atopic dermatitis - but also why I’ve become such a fan of making it a staple in skincare regimens. Better protection = better prevention!

Yep, studies have shown topical CBD helps rev up your skin cell’s protection against environmental stressors. It adds fuel to your antioxidant enzymes (like superoxide dismutase), which help defend your skin cells against stress from the outside world like knights in shining armor.

Stress hitting your skin cells = your skin cells showing wear and tear more quickly = aging, illness, and irritation. And little ‘ol CBD has been shown to help stop oxidation injury in its tracks.

Studies have shown CBD activates a number of our antioxidant genes, meaning they get the antioxidant protection going right at its source, and heading in the direction of faster skin repair. This is great news, especially as we age and our ability to create our own antioxidants slows, or if you’re living in an urban area and your skin is constantly exposed to more stressors from your environment.

When it comes to skin issues, one thing they all have in common: INFLAMMATION.

Thankfully, CBD has been shown to have a wonderful anti-inflammatory, calming effect, even when tested on inflamed, angry oil glands (which means great things for stopping your next breakout in its tracks - it's actually currently being researched in a number of acne trials as we speak, thanks also to its ability to decrease oil production).

CBD was also shown to do a great job of mellowing out the inflammatory reaction that comes with allergic contact dermatitis (bonus: without damaging healthy cells). Studies with psoriasis have also shown promising results, even leading to a new patented CBD-containing psoriasis treatment.

While we’re still unraveling the many mechanisms of how CBD influences inflammation, to put it simply, CBD is the pied piper of shhh-ing some of our significant proinflammatory signals. Researchers think this talent is behind CBD’s studied positive effects on diseases like the big C, but this also means amazing things for keeping your skin happy and better protected from daily irritation.

Just another reason why high-quality CBD serums are a part of my Facial Acupuncture protocols, and one of my favorite things to stock in the office.
